Speech-Language Pathology

Most people think of speech-language pathologists (SLPs) as professionals who help children say their “R” sounds or resolve stuttering—but our field is so much broader. Speech-language pathology is a clinical discipline rooted in medical science that supports people of all ages in how they communicate, think, and interact with the world.

According to the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), SLPs are trained to evaluate and treat disorders in the areas of speech, language, cognition, voice, fluency, and social communication. In other words, we don’t just help you pronounce words—we help you organize your thoughts, express them clearly, adjust for different audiences, and communicate confidently in both personal and professional settings.

At Speak Like a Professional, our speech-language pathologists are specially trained to work with adults, offering services that go beyond traditional therapy. We provide professional communication coaching for individuals and companies who want a science-backed approach to real-world communication.

Speech-language pathologists complete a bachelor's in communication sciences, a master’s in speech-language pathology, and a supervised clinical fellowship year. They must pass a national exam, obtain state licensure, and often earn ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence, ensuring expert-level care.
